Our clients often ask how much services cost, and as with all complex questions, the answer usually is….it depends.
That being said, below are some scenarios you can peruse to get an idea of different levels of care and how much they could cost. But remember that every situation is unique and the best care plan is the one tailored to meet your needs in whatever creative way is best.
Also, remember there are both public and private options in Ontario that you should consider, for more info have a look at our other article Public vs Private – how it works in Ontario.
Situation #1: “We need just a bit of extra help!”
(This is where most of our clients find themselves)
Mom and dad want to stay in their house but it’s getting too hard for them to handle some of the tougher chores like grocery shopping and cooking healthy meals. And they also would benefit from having someone around just to watch for their safety.
Solution: Many times these clients choose to have a caregiver visit once or twice a week for as little as an hour at a time to handle some cooking, shopping, and some companionship.
Approx cost: $100-$500/month
Situation #2: “I can stay in my home but I’m going to need help every day”
Dad wants to stay home but in order to do so he needs someone there every day to help him get dressed and going.
Solution: Our personal support workers could visit for 3 hours every morning (7 days per week) to help with the routine as well as do some cleaning/cooking/chores to make things easier during the day.
Approx cost: $1000-$2500/month
Situation #3: “Mom needs a lot of help and she lives with me so I can do some of it, but I need someone with her every day while I’m at work”
Mom has some more serious cognitive issues and has moved into daughter’s house to keep the family closer together. The daughter is there overnight but she works during the day so someone needs to be there all day to support mom.
Solution: Our personal support workers could visit for 8 hours per day (5 days per week) to manage the house, do much of the cooking and cleaning, and care for mom while daughter is at work.
Approx cost: $2500-$5000/month
Situation #4: “Mom and dad have serious medical conditions and require constant supervision and some nursing support – perhaps a live-in caregiver?”
Mom and dad have serious cognitive and/or medical issues which require constant, watchful supervision as well as a trained nurse checking in to ensure that the situation is well handled.
Solution: Either a live-in caregiver or a round the clock (24 hour) schedule is created to ensure someone is always there and our nurse care managers check in frequently to monitor the client.
Approx cost: $10,000-$20,000/month
