“Family-Managed Home Care is a new model for home care delivery in Ontario that is available in each LHIN.”
We have been receiving many inquiries from family member’s wondering if CalaCare can support individuals who are part of the family-managed home care program, and the answer is YES!
This excellent innovation in home care delivery gives families that power to choose the care provider that they work with, instead of the traditional model of being assigned a care provider who is contracted by the LHIN.
At CalaCare we love everything about this program! It is our privilege to provide care to our clients in the comfort and privacy of their own home, and we always work tirelessly to exceed the expectations of the families who we work with to ensure peace of mind and exceptional care.
When you participate in the family-managed home care program your family member is assessed by the LHIN on an ongoing basis to determine what support will be funded by the LHIN, and then you are able to either engage a company like CalaCare, or employ a caregiver privately to provide the services required. Working with a company like CalaCare simplifies your responsibilities to just telling us what you need and when you need it, and your Nurse Care Manager will take care of everything else. Employing a caregiver privately means that you need to manage their payroll (EI, CPP, T4), manage sick days, vacation, WSIB, liability insurance, training, screening (immunizations, CPR, criminal records check, etc).
The purpose of the family-managed home care program according to the LHIN website is to: “provide more choice and flexibility over service delivery to eligible clients and families. Through the program, eligible clients, or their substitute decision-makers, will receive funding that they can use to purchase home care services or employ care providers set out in the client’s care plan. Clients or substitute decision-makers are responsible for managing and coordinating their care providers and managing funding as well as reporting to the LHIN.”
This program is a great big leap forward in home care delivery! It’s nice to see a systematic step away from the traditional paternalistic health care approach of telling the client/family what they get and when they get it, without a lot of flexibility or room for choice.
